This song is part of the soundtrack for a short documentary Rhyson Hall, aka the Source Academy Kid, of We Stole The Show made.  Rhys says “I saw 200+ protesters surround the police in Cleveland, OH and make them de-arrest a teen who was unlawfully detained.”

Around LA: Brandon Cordoba – Black Diamonds [ALBUM]

This new solo album release from KATALYST‘s Pianist/Keyboardist, Brandon Cordoba entitled Black Diamonds, is a blend between soulful r&b, old school hip-hop, and a fusion of classic and modern jazz.

Brandon Cordoba of KATALYST (Keyboardist/Pianist)

Here’s a link to listen to the groovin’ first single from the album, which is called “Luv Me Like You Mean It” below:

You can also download the wav or mp3: HERE

Originally released on February 12th, 2016 BLACKdiamonds, a new album by Brandon Cordoba, is a collection of instrumental beats, inspired by R&B, Hip-Hop, Jazz, and Soul. Since Brandon does not feature any accompanying vocals, in the form of singers or rappers, the album takes the listener on a journey with each song, using only the music itself. BLACKdiamonds draws heavily from the retro sounds of the 70’s and 80’s, heavily using the sounds of vintage synthesizers, while blending with the influences of the Hip-Hop & R&B of the 90’s through today.  This album is for those who want to sing and rap to, dance, listen while on the road, or even just vibe to with friends or alone.

Brandon Cordoba is a Los Angeles based pianist and producer. Starting in his early teens, he has diligently developed and honed his craft. An alumn of the USC Thornton School of Music, he is continuously pursuing new and exciting musical territory. He is influenced by several genres, including Jazz, R&B, Hip-Hop, Gospel, Classical, and more. He has had the pleasure of performing with and producing for several bands and artists in the greater Los Angeles and beyond. Look forward to hearing numerous solo projects from Brandon, as well as collaborations in the near feature.

The album can be streamed and purchased on BANDCAMP, and is available on all major online music retailers, including iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal, and more.

Gianni Lee – BLU [EP]

A familiar name, but not face to Flagrant City, is Gianni Lee, DJ and Babylon Cartel fashion designer.  Years ago we featured Gianni’s TrillWave Mixtape Series where he would release a compilation  of up and coming artists.  This recent release from Gianni is a bit more insightful and personal than the previous compilations he has worked on.

“B L U is all about my growth as a person. Growing up in West Philadelphia I had six different cats all named Blu. If one would die or runaway we would eventually get another feline and I would again name him Blu. If these cats were personified and Blu #1 wanted to know how I grew up he could only be able ask Blu #6 about my growth. These six cats existed in different stages of my life as these six tracks were influenced by different stages of my life.” – Gianni Lee

B L U is a journey through various time periods and soundscapes drawing inspiration from Club Music , House , Grime , R&B and Folk. Containing six tracks B L U is an experience from start to finish.

Stream the project below by way of Soundcloud!

My favorite tracks from the project include Yellow, Red, Blue and Black, which features the soulful sounds of Marian Mereba.

Te’Amir – Vai [SINGLE]

To my knowledge, the term “vai” refers to a very musically inclined tribe of people, or ethnic group in Africa, most specifically groups in the countries of Liberia and Sierra Leone.  So in true Afrikaan fashion, Te’Amir, who has Ethiopian roots, crafted this organic beat with these folks in mind, would be my guess.  Either way, I feel like dancing.

Preview the goods below, and mosey on over to Te’Amir’s site to download the gem.

Te’Amir – Sketchbook EP [DOWNLOAD]

After getting you all acquainted with Te’Amir by way of L.A. SOUL and Space Adventures, I’m gonna bring you almost current, with this latest full length EP entitled Sketchbook.  This compilation has an array of spacey, relaxing, yet stimulating soulful sounds for you to indulge in.

My personal picks off of this project include:  Triumphant, Turn Me On, Kali and Easy, in that particular order.  Take a listen to my picks, or find some favorites of your own! Preview below, then skip over to Te’Amir’s Bandcamp for more goodies.

Te’Amir – Space Adventures [FreEP]

As promised, more gems from the soulful Te’Amir, by way of one his more recent project Space Adventures, which released in June of 2012.

Oldies But Goodies: Te’Amir – L.A. SOUL [EP]

So in the wonderful life that I lead, stumbled upon this gem, and more, after completing a 4-week tour with my homie and good pal Deuce Ellis.  Deuce, who has toured 8 times prior, had the privilege of being on the road with Aloe Blacc a while back, and he had the pleasure of meeting Blacc’s drummer Te’Amir Yohannes Sweeney.

Te’Amir, native to Los Angeles, grew up in Venice Beach, currently resides in Highland Park.  After Deuce’s final show in Las Vegas on 8/2/13, we headed to Califoronria, to unwind and drop me off in my  new home of SoCal.  Te’Amir welcomed Deuce, DJ Tiger, myself and Bun B into his home with open arms and good vibes, some of which happened to some of his own production and sounds.

You may have seen him drumming with Aloe Blacc & The Grand Scheme, Tutu Sweeney & The Brothers Band, Ethio Cali, Sheera, Mayer Hawthorne and The County, Quadron, Quantic and Allice Russell, SA-RA, Shafiq Husayn, U-N-I, David Kirton, Vikter Duplaix, just to name a few.

Check out this SOULful mix of all easy-listening tunes on this throwback project, entitled L.A. SOUL, which was released in March of 2011.

If you enjoy this, then stay tuned for more recent goodies from Te’Amir, or visit his Bandcamp meanwhile 🙂
