So in the wonderful life that I lead, stumbled upon this gem, and more, after completing a 4-week tour with my homie and good pal Deuce Ellis. Deuce, who has toured 8 times prior, had the privilege of being on the road with Aloe Blacc a while back, and he had the pleasure of meeting Blacc’s drummer Te’Amir Yohannes Sweeney.
Te’Amir, native to Los Angeles, grew up in Venice Beach, currently resides in Highland Park. After Deuce’s final show in Las Vegas on 8/2/13, we headed to Califoronria, to unwind and drop me off in my new home of SoCal. Te’Amir welcomed Deuce, DJ Tiger, myself and Bun B into his home with open arms and good vibes, some of which happened to some of his own production and sounds.
You may have seen him drumming with Aloe Blacc & The Grand Scheme, Tutu Sweeney & The Brothers Band, Ethio Cali, Sheera, Mayer Hawthorne and The County, Quadron, Quantic and Allice Russell, SA-RA, Shafiq Husayn, U-N-I, David Kirton, Vikter Duplaix, just to name a few.
Check out this SOULful mix of all easy-listening tunes on this throwback project, entitled L.A. SOUL, which was released in March of 2011.
So I’m new to this, sue me (late pass). Just moved to LA 2 weeks ago, and my boys Deuce Ellis, DJ Tiger and Te’Amir (drummer for Aloe Blacc) checked out this event the weekend we touched down. I didn’t go, as I was getting settled and acclimated in my new city, so I took a raincheck. Unfortunately, I missed an awesome day of fun, rage, good music and great people.
So, to cure all things Do-Over, I will be attending this coming Sunday, with friends or by my DoLowe, whichever comes first. This runs through the end of the summer and there are also shows in NYC and other cities throughout the US.
Its FREE to play, and there are drink specials from 2 to 4p to get you warmed up.
