Flagrant City: @deuceellis – Goodbye Blue Monday [Album]

The last time you saw Deuce over here on Flagrant City was last summer for the release of his single “Acid Motorcycle“.

Now he’s back with a brand new project release, and a vibe you cannot deny with this Goodbye Blue Monday album!

The teaser track entitled ‘Glow’ that Deuce Ellis released earlier on in the week features fellow Choon hip-hop artist, Cashton heard above gives some insight as to what you can expect audibly on this new album. Funky vibes, the epitome of cool, fly hip hop talk is a way to describe this feeling you get from this new release!

As you can see above, the album features some new names you may be intrigued by such as Red D Daz, Stank Nitty, Miss Dukes, Popa Wu and more!

Rapper/producer Deuce Ellis is an anomaly, plain and simple. While he was born in Buffalo and raised in Brooklyn, he sounds nothing like what you might expect from either area. Instead of hardcore bars about street life and throwback beats, he’s delivering insightful poetry and his own distinct brand of production. He is more about good vibes and opening his third eye, than he is about criminal activity and misogynistic anecdotes. When other emcees are making their way to Atlanta or LA to try to increase the chances of being discovered, Ellis relocated to Honolulu, Hawaii for a few years to broaden his horizons.

Even though his name might not ring bells for the public at large, Deuce Ellis, the artist born Dellian Sharp, has been releasing music and establishing his Cult Classics label since the mid-naughts. In fact, he has over a dozen albums under his belt, including the well-received BLVCK XMAS, which was released with an companion book of poetry. And we would be remiss not to mention his several instrumental LPs that put his abstract and often experimental soundbeds on display!

Having toured with Das EFX and Aloe Blacc, and having worked with industry vets like Rockness (BCC, Heltah Skeltah) and Popa Wu, this Brooklynite has built a solid fanbase across the US and Canada that are always eager to bump anything new from the talented dread. He has also spread his Cult Classic brand with the The Head & The Heart line of t-shirts and hoodies, which have become a must-have for the fashion-forward.

Although he credits modern masters like J Dilla, RZA, and Pharrell Williams with being his major production influences, he is quick to assert that soul god Marvin Gaye and groove genius Quincy Jones inspired him before he ever touched a piece of equipment. Interestingly enough, he was gifted RZA’s old Korg Triton by Popa Wu, which has been the main motivation to record his upcoming album, Dawless, using strictly classic equipment and live instruments.

If the shallow sentiments of Trap and the bleak diatribes of Reality Rap are not exciting you anymore, look no further than left field offerings of Deuce Ellis.

Flagrant City Approved.

Flagrant City EXCLUSIVE: Deuce Ellis – Push It [SINGLE]

Before this new release “Push It”, Deuce Ellis’ latest single “BST9,” recently released earlier this week via 2 Dopeboyz, demonstrates his unconventional style of commercial Hip-Hop fused with a mixture of boldness and braggadocios lyricism.

The new song “Push It” by Deuce Ellis is nothing but pure vibes.  From the eccentric beat to the entrancing lyrics this track is sure to put you in a great mood and take you to your happy place by the beach somewhere.

According to Deuce, “I remember being 16, spending the summer in Buffalo and my cousins taking me all around. I loved those days, they’d play my music in the car and we’d ride and smoke and they’d get me into all the clubs at night.

I was cruising along the western coast of Oahu one day and those memories came back to me and I wanted to capture that vibe and add an element of the new reality I was living.

I wanted to keep it all in the fam so I worked with my girl’s design firm TEETHRatedR on the artwork x and my great friend’s BuffaLowe PR x Flagrant City on the roll out.”

Deuce Ellis – Experiments In Electricity [Album]

Surprise new album from Flagrant City favorite, Deuce Ellis, was released yesterday, on Thanksgiving, where Deuce announced his new self-produced album “An Electric Ride” by rolling out what he calls an open source instrumental project entitled “Experiments in Electricity” where production for the entire concept began late August 2015, right after his girlfriend and creative partner Jenna’s bday, months before the couple would move to Hawaii.

An Electric Ride
is a concept album telling the stories of passengers on a funky intergalactic train traveling the cosmos to arrive at the final destination in the Universe’s most exciting city “Electric City.”

Deuce drew inspiration for the project from the work and ideas of Nicola Telsa and Joseph Campbell’s “Hero With A Thousand Faces” which also inspired George Lucas’ “Star Wars”. The Cult leader collaborated with Jenna’s design firm TeethRatedR for the art direction of the project.

With Experiments in Electricity Deuce aims to begin to paint the sonic picture to the world he’s creating, while also inviting other MCs & artists to share and contribute their own unique visions.”

DJ Tiger presents The Shandy Tape [MIXTAPE]

So, if you’ve got West Indian Roots, like myself and DJ Tiger (Trinidadian/Grenadian and Jamaican/Panamanian respectively), then you know what time it is.  ITS CARNIVALLLLLLLLLL!!!!

Caribana, North America’s largest carnival-themed fest, took place in Toronto this past July and wrapped up the grand finale weekend at the top of August.  Due to us touring with Deuce Ellis, on the Spread The World Tour, we were unable to make the street party.

shandy

WTF is Shandy you ask? Well allow me to explain, shandy (shandygaff) is beer, mixed with a soft drink (soda/pop), carbonated lemonade, ginger beer, ginger ale, or apple juice.  West Indian mix usually include beer + ginger ale or sorrel. So what Tiger is telling you to do is get faded, and dance and boogie with this new mix.

So it’s still carnival season across the world and for all those planning to be out on Eastern Parkway Labor Day weekend in Brookyln, NYC here’s The Shandy Tape from DJ Tiger to get you ready for all the action from Friday to Monday with a little J’ouvert on Church Ave in between. 59 tracks in a little over an hour of pure soca and dancehall chuuunes with a lil something for all my Africans out there to skank with.  MODDDDDDDDDD!
